Familial Ghosts, my new series of found family Kodachrome slides from over half a century ago that chronicles people and places that continue to haunt me. These scanned, resurrected images have been transformed through flame, wax, ink, and chemical alterations into a present-day intercession and a travelogue of imagination.

Civil Atrocities  was inspired by the Trump administration, the events leading up to the 2020 election, the January 6, 2021 insurrection, and the American Civil War of 1861 while addressing man’s inhumanity to man. The tableaux I photograph for this series were created with children’s toy soldiers and dolls rooted in imaginative play, where toys were often stand-ins for a child’s simplistic view of right and wrong, good and evil. As I live through the compounded horrors of a powerful embracing of fascism, terrorism, gun violence, and the climate crisis, my work represents the destruction and fear that threatens my current day survival, as well as an impending apocalyptic future.

Amino Ammo: Breeding a Culture of Violence moving images addresses man’s inhumanity to man. This one minute fifty seconds video clip is a visual and aural metaphor for the breeding of gun violence prevalent in America today that starts in utero. Amniotic fluid protects the fetus in the womb, but weapons and distorted 2nd Amendment interpretations may be seen as the protection once born. Instead of a birth certificate, it seems as if these radicalized newborns are issued NRA Second Amendment certificates that justify the bearing of arms for the destruction of civil liberties, institutions, and fellow citizens who go against their cultural belief that a Constitutional democracy is a terroristic threat.

American Civil War 2020
With all the political, social, and racial unrest currently creating great divisiveness in the United States, in the months leading up to the 2020 Presidential election, I feared America was heading towards another Civil War.  As prayers for democracy, I painted in an American Civil War book using only the color blue to reflect the color of the Union Soldiers' uniforms and the color of today's Democratic Party.
