PROJECT STATEMENT
Achromatic Terrains are altered decades-old vernacular Kodachrome slides that replace landscape colors with spectral flashes of absorbed light and and contours that intermediate between natural landscapes and ethereal habitats.
These slides are transformed through drawing on the sides with ink, bleach, and wax. Then scanned in, digitally resurrected and printed on archival inkjet paper to reflect an other-worldly take on a depleted future.
Informed by my background in painting, this series invites fresh introspection beyond the representation of a captured photographic reality. I seek to investigate the fraught relationship between outward appearance and inner life to reflect on sudden changes in reality, deep inside a drifting memory of wonder.
